Types of High School Courses at WAC
Online (Live & Self-Paced)
Offered in partnership with Williamsburg Learning, our online classes are available in two formats:
- Live – Best for engaging, interactive discussions with mentors and classmates
- Self-Paced – Ideal for students needing a more flexible schedule
In-Person Adventures
We have two unique Adventures courses to choose from with a Flex schedule in some locations:
- Outdoor Adventures (Fall) – Includes activities like hiking, rock climbing, rowing, and more to increase confidence and grit
- Leadership Adventures (Winter) – Includes activities like service projects, simulations, museum trips, and more to foster leadership skills
Independent Studies
Students work independently with an approved mentor or program to earn academic credit. Students who take Independent Studies submit online assignments, including progress reports.
Please contact your student's academic counselor for more information about Independent Studies.
Concurrent Enrollment
We partner with colleges in Colorado to let qualified Williamsburg high school students attend college classes for reduced tuition, earning both high school and college credit at the same time. Visit our Concurrent Enrollment page to learn more!

Things to Note About Live Courses
Live online classes are 50 minutes on M/W or T/Th except for Math, which is M-Th.
Fridays are for In-Person Adventures and studying. There are no live classes on Fridays.
All live online classes are held in Mountain Time, and we observe Daylight Savings.
All class times, mentors, and other course details are subject to change depending on enrollment.
You can view more details, including mentors for each live section in the Williamsburg Course Schedules document. While this document can be helpful for planning your student's preferred classes, only SIS has the most up-to-date info about seats available.

FAQs
Registration Process
-
Is registration first-come, first-served?
Yes, registration for admitted students is on a first-come, first-served basis. We have a limited number of seats in all courses, and we do not reserve seats for returning students.
-
Can I change my student’s classes after they’re registered?
Yes. If needed, you can add, swap, or remove courses from your child’s schedule until September 20 for the fall semester and January 17 for the winter semester. However, course changes may require review and approval from our Registrar.
-
Can I register my student part-time?
Students who wish to take only 2-3 classes can enroll in our Homeschool Enrichment (HSE) program. Requirements and benefits for this program differ from full-time enrollment. Please see our How to Apply & Enroll page for more details.
-
What are Williamsburg’s graduation requirements?
Please see our graduation requirements page for a detailed list. Williamsburg Academy of Colorado high school students who meet these requirements can graduate with an accredited high school diploma.
-
What if my student wants to graduate in three high school years instead of four?
Some ambitious students want to pursue their diploma in three high school years instead of four. If your student would like to pursue this path, please contact our Academic Counselor to build a plan, and then we'll register them accordingly.
-
What if my student is advanced in math or writing?
In this case, you may enroll your student in a more advanced math or writing course. If they have already earned official high school credit for a recommended course, they should work with our Academic Counselor to decide which course to take instead.
Types of Courses
-
Which classes are considered “core” at Williamsburg?
At WAC, our core classes align directly with the core subject areas defined by the Colorado Department of Education (CDE). All of our Language Arts, Social Studies (also known as Humanities), Science (also known as STEM), and Math courses are considered core classes and fully meet CDE's core standards.
In addition to these CDE core classes, our Leadership courses are a key part of WAC's core curriculum. They are required for all full-time students and play a fundamental role in our education model. -
Does Williamsburg offer Honors and AP classes?
Honors Classes: Yes, our live-online Social Studies, Writing & Rhetoric, Literature, High School Math, and Pre-Calculus courses are offered in both Honors and Classic versions. (Self-paced courses are only available in the Classic format.)
Students in Classic and Honors courses meet in the same live class sessions but Honors students complete roughly 30% more work. You can select either the Classic or Honors version when you enroll in SIS.
AP Classes: We offer AP U.S. Government & Politics A (Fall semester) and B (Winter semester). These courses are available to students in grades 11 and 12. Students wishing to replace Government and Economics with AP U.S. Government & Politics must take both the A & B semesters and Principles of Economics to fulfill graduation requirements.
-
What self-paced courses are available for high school?
Many of our online high school courses are offered in both “live” and “self-paced” formats. Most Fine Arts, PE, and Electives are offered exclusively in the self-paced format. The following courses are available in the self-paced format:
- All high school Science courses (except Astronomy)
- All high school Language Arts courses
- All high school Leadership courses (except Student Body Leadership)
- All high school Social Studies courses
- Electives
Whenever possible, we recommend taking live-online courses over self-paced courses for the best academic experience and results. Self-paced courses should be selected only if necessary.
-
What Independent Studies courses are available for high school?
We offer high school Independent Studies courses in Fine Arts, P.E., and Electives. To learn which Independent Studies courses to select for your student, please contact your student's academic counselor.
Our Independent Studies Fine Arts, 3D Design: Modeling, Animation, & Printing, and Digital Photography courses can be counted as Fine Arts or Electives credit. Please work with our Academic Counselor to determine what is best for your student.
