Get a free, loaned computer for everything your student needs at Williamsburg.
As a student at Williamsburg Academy of Colorado, your child needs access to a reliable computer, internet, webcam, and microphone.
Students enrolled full-time who are without access to a computer can receive a loaned laptop to use for the academic year. All school laptops come equipped with a webcam and microphone.
As part of the computer checkout process, all parents and students must read and agree to the terms found in the Laptop Handbook.
Guidelines and Procedures
-
Parent & Student Commitment
Laptops (school computers) are the property of WAC. Students are responsible for returning them in working condition. Reasonable wear and tear are acceptable.
If damage occurs, parents may be charged the actual cost of any needed repairs, not to exceed the replacement cost of the computer. WAC requires that any damage to computers be reported within one week.
Parents are responsible for returning equipment.
A hold will be placed on the school records of students who fail to return computers and equipment. Additionally, a late fee of $25 per week may be assessed to you for failure to return equipment by the due date. Laptops must be returned within one week of exit. Withdrawn students who fail to return the laptop upon withdrawal may have a police report filed against them for stolen property.
-
How to Request a WAC Computer
You may request a school computer for your students as part of the enrollment application or by submitting the WAC Student Laptop Request form.
Requesting and checking out a school computer is a school-wide process that occurs each Fall and as needed throughout the year.
Once your laptop request is approved, we will ship your student's laptop to the address on file in SIS.
Note: Students must be enrolled full-time to qualify for a school computer.
-
Return, Exchange, and Incident Reports
If your student needs to return or exchange their laptop for any reason, please fill out the WAC Equipment Returns form.
Exchanges
In the event that a WAC laptop needs to be exchanged, WAC will do so if a replacement is available.
General Returns
School computers can be returned at any time throughout the school year by the following methods:
- Via mail
- At an Adventure Activity
Returns Due to Damage
If your student returns a damaged laptop and needs a new one, please submit both of the following:
- WAC Equipment Returns form
- A WAC Student Computer Request form
This ensures our records remain accurate and current.
Parents must pay for all computer damages before a new computer can be issued.
-
Receiving or Returning by Mail
WAC covers the shipping costs for receiving and returning student laptops. Laptops will be shipped to the address listed in SIS.
Arrangements to receive or return computers can be made within the WAC Student Laptop Request form or the WAC Equipment Returns form.
-
Keeping Equipment from One Year to the Next
Returning WAC students who wish to keep their laptop from one school year to the next must complete the WAC Student Laptop Request form as an annual renewal of their computer contract.
-
Forgotten Laptop Passwords & Computer Issues
If your student forgets their password or has any other technical issues with their computer, please contact IT Support.
Computer Security
WAC school devices are intended for educational use only. We take internet safety and personal responsibility seriously. To help our families, we put the following safeguards in place:
Computers provided by WAC will come with filtering software pre-installed.
Entertainment, shopping, and gaming sites will be flagged and blocked by WAC.
All school computers can be monitored at any time for any reason.
Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Windows Edge are the only allowed browsers on WAC-issued devices.

Tips for Parents
We recommend that parents regularly communicate with students about internet safety and set rules about the types of websites and content students are allowed to view. Even the best internet filters are not completely airtight, so the goal should be for students to learn to self-govern online, because parents can’t always control access.
Google’s SafeSearch and many other services offer search options that remove (most) adult content.
Please communicate with your student about the amount of time and the range of activities they can do online. In general, students should not surf the web or use social media during class or homework hours.
Additional tools and resources for building a secure in-home internet experience for your student can be found in our WAC Parent & Student Handbook and Laptop Handbook. You can access these handbooks from our Parent Resource Center.

Right to Suspend Access
The use of WAC-issued devices and equipment is a privilege, not a right. Inappropriate use of these resources may result in disciplinary action (including suspension or expulsion) and/or referral to legal authorities. The Executive Director, a teacher or supervisor, or a systems administrator may limit, suspend, or revoke access to electronic devices at any time.
